ROUND TWO

Shaq Lawson – DE – Clemson

Lawson is either going to fall to the 2nd round or be taken late first round. Depending on the mock draft and draft prep guide you review, Lawson is a big question mark as to where he will fall. This years draft has some very good talent at the defensive end position and Lawson would benefit from playing a year rotating with Mario Williams and Cameron Wake. The Dolphins have need for depth at the position so it’s not out of the question that they look at Lawson as a fit for the present and the future.

Other options

Cody Whitehair is a solid guard/tackle option out of Kansas State and the Dolphins need to address the offensive line early in this year draft. Obviously Whitehair is not an option if the Dolphins take a tackle/guard in round one but if he is here Miami very well may look to improving their offensive line over selecting a defensive end. The Dolphins also have not addressed their corner position unless they drafted one in round one. To me if the Dolphins do not draft a corner in round one, then they will in round two and Kendall Fuller of Virgina Tech and Xavien Howard of Oregon are legitimate options in the 2nd round.

ROUND THREE

Vadal Alexander – G – LSU

Projected to go in round two or three, Alexander would be a great fit for the Dolphins offensive line. He has strong legs and power for run blocking but he needs to improve in pass protection where he slows down. He is better suited for guard play because of his pass protection issues but he can be coached. Some worry about his weight but Dolphins trainers should be able to keep that in check.

Other options

Connor Cook is a name to watch. Ideally the Dolphins won’t need to draft a quarterback but if they decide that having another option on their roster will help push Ryan Tannehill and provide depth to replace Matt Moore, than Cook is an option in round three. Personally, I don’t think Miami will go quarterback this early but drafting one at some point is a possibility. Cornerback again is a very big possibility but by round three I think the Dolphins are looking at offensive line almost entirely.
