Miami Dolphins: 10 Players Miami needs to drop after 2016 season
By Brian Miller
Earl Mitchell
2017 salary
$4.5 million
If released
$500K dead money
$4 million cap savings
Money should have been laid on Mitchell not ruturning in 2016. Forget about the injury history, Mitchell still has yet to emerge as a playmaking defensive tackle. To think Miami let Jared Odrick and Randy Starks leave in partial favor to Mitchell.
Slowly DT Jordan Phillips is starting to get better and that makes him a more viable option than Mitchell who is, like most of the Dolphins players, very inconsistent when he is healthy. The Dolphins have ranked at or near the bottom in run defense that last two seasons, Mitchell is a part of the problem.
While the salary isn’t that bad for a starting defensive lineman, the reality is Mitchell should be easily replaced with a better option even at that same salary.
