Pat Elflein – Ohio State

Ian Wharton (who we use to grade out incoming draft prospects) has Elflein rated as the third best guard in this years draft. So how does this equate to the Dolphins being a potential landing spot? For starters, Elflein is projected to be a day two draft pick and likely top half of round two or mid-round two.

The Dolphins seriously could trade down and if they do and gain another 2nd round pick then Elflein could come into play.

Ian Wharton’s take:

  • Versatility is a huge plus. Projects as a starting-caliber right guard or center due to his skill set. Has the athleticism and strength to play in any scheme, but especially balanced ones that will utilize his movement ability.

The Dolphins like their offensive lineman capable of playing multiple positions and with the uncertainty of Mike Pouncey’s health, Elflein would give the Dolphins a legitimate back-up should Pouncey go down again to injury.

Elflein also plays with attitude and that is important as the Dolphins are looking for an identity on offense and on the offensive line. Still depending on what happens with the first round pick, Elflein could be out of Miami’s plans.
