Pat Elflein – G – Ohio State

To be honest I really like Elflein as a prospect for the Miami Dolphins and this is really more or less a player that Miami shouldn’t touch in round one. I know the saying, “if a player is a starter in round two he is a starter in round one” but value is a priority here.

The Dolphins have not been specifically linked to Elflein any more than they have Forrest Lamp who many believe is a Dolphins day one target. The truth is that if Miami wants a guard outside of Lamp they can find the same types of players with the same upside in round two or even round three.

The Dolphins simply have too many other needs specifically on defense that need to be addressed first in round one. Guard is not a luxury pick, it is a need but there is only one guard projected in the mid-20’s of round one that warrant the selection and that is Lamp.

Elflein has a lot of strengths and those strengths do outweight most of his weaknesses. He needs to do a better job with pass protection and needs to get quicker. If the Dolphins move back in round one to the late 20’s or even at the top of round two then Elflein comes into play. The reason is if Miami moves back from 22 they don’t see the value of the players that are available then and that means defensively as well.
