Enter Nick Saban. Saban was supposed to bring his college legacy to the Dolphins and return them to the playoffs. Instead he simply kept the coaching seat warm. Faced with an incredibly bad salary cap situation and a serious lack of talent at almost every position, Saban needed to clean house. That included the departure of Jay Fiedler.

Replacing Fiedler was Gus Frerrote who lasted one season. QB was not on the mind of Saban in his first season. He used the second overall pick on running back Ronnie Brown of Auburn. Brown lasted six seasons with the Dolphins before leaving for Philadelphia in 2011. Brown played a vital role in the 2008 Wild Cat offense that took Miami to the playoffs.

In round two, Saban drafted Matt Roth a top defensive end prospect. Roth played well but was at times inconsistent. He lasted four full seasons and part of a 5th before being moved. In round three Saban added linebacker Channing Crowder. Crowder was a vocal defender. He played five seasons for Miami before calling it a career after injuries began to take control.
