The Miami Dolphins are set to host their first practice on August 27th and several positions will be up for grabs making this years training camp all that more interesting.

Several questions will need to be resolved this year, especially with injuries. How those injuries recover or don’t recover will make for an interesting training camp.

Believe it or not there are not as many camp battles expected this year as years past. Most are for depth and final roster spots. That does not diminish the fact they could be entertaining but there is no QB competition, running back competition, tight-end, and so on.

These are five of the more intriguing camp battles to keep an eye on..

Number 5: The battle for strong safety

With Reshad Jones back on the field and with a new contract, the Dolphins have free safety locked down but strong safety could be something to watch in training camp as Michael Thomas, Walt Aikens, and Nate Allen try to prove they can start until T.J. McDonald serves his eight game suspension.

Allen has the upper hand heading into camp but his last two seasons have been average at best and the Dolphins are hoping he will return to his form of three seasons ago. Michael Thomas on the other hand has starting experience but his improvement at the position has been slow developing and he has made a much bigger impact on the special teams side.

As for Aikens, there is talk that the Dolphins will move him to either corner or safety permanently so it’s something to keep an eye on.

Prediction: Nate Allen
