The folks over at USA Today are predicting a pretty poor season for the Miami Dolphins in 2017. Poor as in only seven wins.

The brainchild behind the predictions is unknown, well unknown to most. His name is Nate Davis but hey he might really be Bill Belichick or Tom Brady. The same prediction has the Patriots finishing the season 16-0 for the second time in their history. Davis goes so far as to predict the Patriots winning the Super Bowl to finish the season…perfect.

Davis calls the AFC East a “cakewalk” for the Patriots but so many things can happen in an NFL season and predictions, while bold are more often than not…wrong. Take the Miami Dolphins predictions.

According to Davis, the Dolphins will finish in 2nd place with a record of 7-9. Not just at .500 but below .500. This from a team who won 10 games last season and at least on paper has gotten better. He cites a tough schedule for the Dolphins.

While the Dolphins open at home against the Buccaneers they travel to San Diego in week two and West coast trips haven’t always been kind to the Dolphins. Getting to nine losses however still seems unlikely.

The toughest games on the field regardless of location will be against the Titans, Falcons, Ravens, Raiders, Patriots, and Chiefs. Games against the Chargers, Broncos, and Panthers won’t be easy either. Add them together and losses in those games are indeed nine.

This is however nothing new. Miami isn’t seen as a team that has turned the corner but instead a team that is heading in the right direction. Most in the media believe that the Dolphins are still a few years away from being legitimate contenders in the AFC East and the AFC in general. Those same pundits believe that last years 10-6 record was the results of lucky bounces. That may be so but luck plays into a lot of games. Just ask the benevolent Patriots.

Speaking of the Patriots, they will need to face the Chiefs, Falcons, Raiders, and Steelers before they can notch a perfect season and then will have to run the table in the post-season. And let’s remember one important fact, the Patriots have not moved to the Super Bowl following a season they weren’t accused of cheating.  Just saying.
