Is it time for the Miami Dolphins to move on from Ryan Tannehill?

Ryan Tannehill will be missing most, if not all, of the 2017 season. What will be the roster plans for the Miami Dolphins at quarterback in 2018?

Jay Cutler signed with the Dolphins on Sunday, to a one-year deal worth up to $13 million including incentives. With this signing and the amount of Cutler’s deal, it looks like Ryan Tannehill will be having season-ending surgery.

I have had my doubts on Ryan Tannehill and if he has what it takes to get over the hump and push the Dolphins through the playoffs. The 2016 season showed that he made a significant jump under Adam Gase. The first time it looked like he was elevating his game, he gets hurt.

Welcome to football. Injuries are part of the game, and there are plenty of players ready to step up and prove themselves when a man goes down. Ryan Tannehill has had 6-years of patience with Dolphins’ fans. He’s had a few head coaches and several offensive coordinators, we know. His offensive-line hasn’t been anywhere near good enough, we know.

How long should the Dolphins hold out to see if Tannehill can take us back to the super bowl? They shouldn’t wait much longer. He will not be able to play in 2017, so he’s no help this season. Next year is already a mystery. Nobody knows if he’ll be out rehabbing well-into next season, or if he’ll ever get back to his 2016 form pre-injury.

In the NFL, time waits for no man. I believe Ryan Tannehill’s ship has sailed and it is time for the Miami Dolphins to look for the next player to lead the franchise at quarterback. With Adam Gase showing that he can improve the team with no matter who is behind-center, he needs to have a quarterback that will be able to play in 2018 and beyond.

Below is a list of quarterbacks that will be free agents in 2018, and some of the top quarterback prospects for the 2018 NFL Draft.
