Jordan Phillips

Phillips was singled out by head coach Adam Gase this off-season. Gase told media that he expects more from the former 2nd round draft pick. Entering training camp Phillips had a hold of the starting job and there wasn’t much in the way of competition. But that wasn’t the case.

Whether it be Phillips’ inability to practice consistently or because Davon Godchaux could, Phillips appears close to losing his starting job next to Ndamukong Suh. Phillips simply isn’t grasping the 100% effort on every play concept and that has been a knock on him since college. It was a likely reason that he fell into round two costing him what potentially could have been millions.

The Dolphins are a lot stronger at defensive tackle than was expected this year but Miami was banking on Phillips turning it around and heeding the indirect advice from Gase. Miami needs both Godchaux and Phillips to be at a premium level come the regular season but it’s looking more like Phillps could be regulated to situational play while watching the 5th round rookie start in his place.
