TGIF? Not So Much: Kansas City Chiefs at Miami Dolphins 10/21/2005

Next up, a delay that will be a bit more familiar. Even if it wasn’t the most storied of Miami Dolphins games in the end.

That’d be 2005’s Friday Night Football matchup (albeit not nationally carried), brought to you by Hurricane Wilma.

Moved up two days to allow for proper storm prep, the game was played as if gale force winds already disrupting the passing game. Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson combined for nearly 200 yards on the ground en route to 3 TDs in a game Miami never led. Smaller points of curiosity for this one would include Sage Rosenfels making one pass attempt and connecting on a 77-yard TD pass to Chris Chambers, and future Dolphins “starter” Trent Green being the starter for Kansas City. Final score: KC 30, MIA 20.

Miami would go 7-3 the rest of season though, raising hopes for 2006 high enough that they decided to go all out in adding one of two available Pro Bowl quarterbacks.

Bad news all around as this storm actually did impact South Florida, and the Dolphins went on to make a not so savvy choice in tapping their next QB.
