Sometimes You Can’t Prevent Forest Fires: Miami at San Diego 10/26/2003

Last up, we have a unique case of Mother Nature causing the Miami Dolphins to change their plans. For this instance was both not hurricane related, and not even in a home game to begin with.

Monday Night Football became Sunday Night Football for the Dolphins in October of 2003, when Southern California wildfires necessitated the utilization of the Chargers home turf as a rescue zone for evacuees. The game was moved up a day, and was also moved out of California entirely. The two teams faced off in Arizona instead, well out of harms way.

Miami won handily 26-10, on the strength of a 3 TD game from Brian Griese. That one was easily the best game of his Dolphins career. South Florida fans would of course be forgiven if they lost track of that one though. Not just because the reason for rescheduling was out of state though; the Florida Marlins had wrapped up their second world championship the previous night.

So there you have it, Phin Phanatics. The Miami Dolphins are only 2-4 when their schedule is tinkered with. Glass half full on this, I guess Jay Cutler has an extra week to get his timing down with his new receivers. Glass half empty, well there’s plenty to choose from. Whether it be Doug Martin being eligible next time, or just the insane grind of 16 straight weeks, there’s a lot not to like.

All trivial in the big picture naturally. In the meantime, stay safe, and remember to pull Jay Ajayi and Devante Parker out of your fantasy lineups.
