The Miami Dolphins were greeted in Los Angeles on Sunday by a crowd that made the game feel like a home game.

Miami opened their season in L.A. after missing last weeks game due to Hurricane Irma. After spending the week in Oxnard, Ca. practicing at the Cowboys training camp facility, the Dolphins finally took the field.

It didn’t take too long for the Dolphins players to realize that this was not an ordinary road game. The announcers of the television broadcast made reference on air about the amount of Dolphins fans in the StubHub Stadium. During warm-ups a quick video showed Dolphins players raising their hands as the fans yelled.

Following the game, L.A. quarterback Phillip Rivers said that the loudest cheer he heard all game was when Younghoe Koo missed the field goal at the end to give the Dolphins a win.

"“Obviously the loudest roar came at the end after the missed field goal. That’s where you really got to see how many Dolphins fans there were. I heard the roar before I saw the official’s signal. I wasn’t sure which roar it was.” – via ESPN"

A video shot from the upper stands has the sound of the game and it clearly shows the fans in the stadium are rooting on the Dolphins. As the kick is made and it’s clear that it will miss the fans erupt with cheering. Apparently so loudly that the canon operator thought the Chargers had made it and fired it off. Another addition of insult to injury.

In addition to Rivers, running back Melvin Gordon said the stadium was about a 50/50 mix of Dolphins and Chargers fans. That can’t be too thrilling for a player playing in what is supposed to be his home stadium.

This is the first season that the Chargers have played in L.A. and it’s pretty clear they have a lot of work to do to win over a fan base that couldn’t fill a 27,000 seat stadium. In fact it was reported last night that the combined attendance of both the Rams and Chargers who both played at home last night, was less than the crowd for USC on Saturday.

Next week the Dolphins will find another loud cheering section as they head to New York to face the Jets. The annual MetLifeTakeover, which still has tickets left so click the link, is already 900 plus strong and is expected to go over the 1,000 mark by game day. Miami has found the large contingent of fans gives it a home away from home feel.

On Sunday, our California brothers and sisters provided them with a home experience! The Dolphins will now return home for the first time in over a week after leaving South Florida to escape Hurricane Irma.
