Dolphin fans should root for Cutler against the Titans
By Ryan Davis
The Dolphins and Jay Cutler are underdogs for the 2017 season. The national media did not give the Dolphins much respect after last season’s playoff appearance and no one believes in the Dolphins or Cutler after their 1-2 start.
Pundits have criticized Cutler his entire career and they have begun in Miami after only 3 games. James Walker of ESPN called the signing of Cutler a “desperate signing.” Stephen A. Smith of ESPN thought the signing of Cutler was “egregious” and “disgusting.” Another poor game from Cutler could prove them to be correct.
The criticisms of Cutler have been of his poor play on the field and his poor relationships with people in the organizations off the field. On the field, he’s been criticized for throwing too many interceptions, taking too many sacks, and making poor decisions. Off the field, he’s been criticized for not caring, being a poor leader, and being a poor teammate.
The majority of the media criticized him for not being tough and leaving the NFC Championship game against the rival Packers when he injured his knee. Cutler received the blame after the loss. Michael Bennett from the Seattle Seahawks called him the “worst quarterback in the NFL.”
However, reporters rarely describe his struggles with Type 1 diabetes or the foundation he started to help diabetic underprivileged children. Cutler has experienced few ups and many downs in his NFL career with only 3 winning seasons out of 11. He still has a chance to change his legacy with the Dolphins.
The home fans in his first home game should give him a loud reception and support. He’s one of our guys now and we should root for him. If he has success, then the Dolphins have success and that is what every Dolphin fan wants.
He had a quarterback rating of 101.8 against the Chargers with the support of many Dolphin fans in Los Angles. However, he struggled the last two weeks with quarterback ratings of 70.3 against the Jets and 71.1 against the Saints. He’ll need a strong running game and support from the home fans to win against the Titans.
Cutler has nothing to lose against the Titans. Coach Gase defended Cutler’s play the past two weeks. However, the team has seen the backup quarterback Matt Moore win games before, so a switch could happen soon.
This week Dolphin fans should root for the ultimate underdog, Jay Cutler, against the Titans. All he has to do now is WIN.
