The Miami Dolphins had a great come from behind win on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. It moved them up in the FanSided.com power rankings.

Miami, according to the power ranking is now ranked 19th. Personally, they should be ranked lower. Last week the networks power ranking had Miami at 26th. So this represents a seven point jump for the Dolphins and the question is why?

Don’t get me wrong here, I love that Miami got some love from a power ranking but let us put this into reality. Miami lost two weeks combined 40-6 and one of those games was against the New York Jets who are, in this ranking, ranked lower than Miami. They lost on Sunday to the Patriots after getting robbed on a would be tying touchdown.

Miami’s defense alone warrants a 19th ranking but the offense has struggled all year and on Sunday they struggled for 30 minutes before finding a rhythm and pulling out the win. They will next play the Jets in Miami.

What surprises here is who is ranked below the Dolphins and to be honest, these teams really have been as much of an enigma this season as the Dolphins offense. The Jets are ranked 21st behind the Dolphins and the Jaguars. They are followed by the Bengals, Chargers, and Titans. Making up the final eight in the rankings are the Cardinals, Buccaneers, Bears, Ravens, Giants, Colts, 49er’s, and of course the Browns.

When put into this perspective, the Dolphins at 19 makes sense but I still question, as much as it pains me, whether they should be ranked higher than the Jets after all they lost to them only four games ago and have shown mild improvement since.

Power rankings really are nothing more than one persons opinion and when most of the NFL records are hovering around the 3-2 and 2-3 mark it’s really a matter of preference when slotting. So maybe 19th overall really isn’t that bad. If it really matters at all.

For what it is worth, the Falcons dropped from 4th to 10th thanks to the Dolphins upset.
