Julius Thomas

The Miami Dolphins would eat $3 million in cap space if they released Thomas during the 2017 season and they would save just over $2 million in cap space. I’d be fine with that. In 2018 Thomas will be paid $6 million but none of that is guaranteed.

This was a mistake and this is all on the shoulders of head coach Adam Gase who opted to stick with someone he knew. Most of the time you could discount the spending of a 7th round draft pick for any player and write it off as a risk but Thomas is so bad that the Dolphins may have had a better chance of drafting a future Hall of Famer.

Where does Thoma’s problems begin? For starters he can’t block but we knew that coming in. What we didn’t know is that he can’t run routes anymore. Not to sound mean but Thomas looks fat, lazy, lethargic, and slow when he runs his routes and if you touch him when he has the ball, he seems to just fall down. This is not what Miami was hoping to get.

Thomas was supposed to give the Dolphins a red-zone threat. In the one attempt at a red-zone touchdown, Thomas didn’t bother to turn to the ball or fight for it. It was an easy interception for the opposing corner. I would look up the game that happened in but I’m going the Thomas route on this one.

Thomas not only cost the Dolphins money but he is costing them yards, consistency, and momentum. Miami should cut him, eat the money, and see what they have in MarQueis Gray and continue to use Anthony Fasano who show far more heart.
