Dolphins announce Matt Moore will start on Sunday

Matt Moore will start for the Miami Dolphins on Sunday against the Patriots. It’s the best chance Miami has to win this game from the quarterback position.
The Dolphins announced the decision on Twitter as Jay Cutler who threw some passes on Friday during practice has not been cleared from the concussion protocol. Moore started against the Patriots last year after Ryan Tannehill went down. Miami lost at home.
Moore has started one game this season, a complete drubbing by the Ravens. In that 40-0 defeat the Dolphins offense struggled and Moore had two pick six interceptions in the game. The Dolphins went back to Jay Cutler the following weeks after his rib injury was cleared.
The Dolphins didn’t play well against a very good Ravens defense but when Moore has played this season he has looked more energized and the offense has looked much faster as well. Moore has been able to scan the field and use his footwork to get out of trouble. Cutler on the other hand tends to throw the ball away a bit too early. Often appearing to give up on plays too soon.
Miami is hoping that Moore can have the success he has had coming off the bench. In two games thus far this season Moore has replaced Cutler and brought the team back. The first was a win in Miami against the Jets and last week he rallied the Dolphins to a fourth quarter comeback only to watch the defense give the game away.
The Patriots will be a tough game for Moore and the offense as their defense is getting better after a rough start to the season. The Dolphins will need Moore and the offense to be on point Sunday because the Patriots offense will likely pick the Dolphins defense apart with a healthy Rob Gronkowski.
While the Dolphins are still a 17.5 point underdog to the Patriots, Moore gives the Dolphins a chance to keep the game close if he can make smart decisions and let the plays develop in front of him. Of course he will need time to do that.
