Hurricane Irma

As the NFL pre-season wrapped up and the league began its prep to the 2017 kick-off the Dolphins were watching the tropics instead of the schedule. Massive hurricane Irma swept across the Florida Keys leaving destruction in its wake as it climbed the Florida West coast.

Miami and Tampa shared a week 11 bye and after days of trying to decide what course of action should be taken, the league finally decided to postpone the game until their mutual bye week.

As both Miami and Tampa were hammered by the storm, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross saw it fit to fly his players and their families to California while the city road out the storm. Miami would take up residence at the Dallas Cowboys training facility and they would prepare for week two as their season opener.

The travel to Los Angeles would put the Dolphins on the road for the first three weeks of the season. They would return home to Miami after the Chargers game to deal with issues from the storm, then fly to New York to face the Jets, and then to London to face the Saints.

It was a miserable circumstance to start a season that would be filled with drama.
