10 big headlines from Dolphins 2017 year
By Brian Miller
Byron Maxwell
When the Dolphins released Byron Maxwell it wasn’t for cap savings. The Dolphins ate most of his salary when they decided they had enough. Still early in the season, October, the Dolphins finally grew tired of the Maxwell on-field antics that included him playing his own style and disregarding the schemes and system calls from the sideline.
Maxwell had been benched in 2016 in favor of Xavien Howard but Howard was injured and Maxwell stepped back in and up to finish out the season. 2017 seemed to be heading into the same direction.
Maxwell arrived in Miami via trade with the Eagles that brought in fellow defender Kiko Alonso. The trade has not worked out how Miami had hoped.
Miami’s patience with Maxwell finally reached a head when they benched him, put him on the inactive list, and then finally removed him from the team all together.
