Dolphins to meet with Landry’s agents on Wednesday

The Miami Dolphins will have a meeting with the agents for Jarvis Landry on Wednesday to discuss his future with the Dolphins.
Adam Schefter reported on Twitter Monday that the Miami Dolphins will meet with Jarvis Landry‘s agents to discuss his future, citing multiple sources. Landry has been tagged with the non-exclusive franchise tag that will pay him $16 million for the 2018 season should he sign it.
Rumors have been circulating since last Tuesday when the Dolphins applied the tag to Landry that he would be traded as soon as a suitable trade partner is found. Nothing has materialized yet but that could change in the coming days as the leagues new year and the start of free agency begins on March 14th.
For Landry, who despite the tag holds all of his own cards, a trade would have to be something he agreed upon. Fans who don’t want Miami to pay the $14 million a year for Landry, his asking price, are hoping that a trade happens soon but the reality is a trade is not likely to happen at all and instead this is all just ramp up to free agency talk.
The truth is Miami doesn’t have a lot to stand on here and even a meeting with his agent won’t change that. Landry can nix any trade and force the Dolphins to either pay him on a new deal, pay him on the franchise tag, or remove the tag and let him hit the open market.
For now the meeting may help the Dolphins and Landry’s camp come to a new deal that would keep him in South Florida. It has been reported that the two sides are only about a million per season apart but the guaranteed portions of the contract are probably the biggest hold-up. Real money as they call it.
Regardless of all the rumors this saga should be over in another two weeks one way or the other and likely before.
