The Miami Dolphins have made a trade with the Los Angeles Rams for defensive end Robert Quinn according to multiple reports.

Quinn has spent his entire seven-year career with the Rams. Last year the Dolphins made a deal for DE William Hayes. The parameters of the deal are not yet known and it will not take effect until the league new year on March 14th.

The news comes as the Dolphins have been trying to deal WR Jarvis Landry.

Quinn has $22 million over two years left on his current contract that the Dolphins will have to absorb. The question is where will they get the money? Miami is currently around $7 million over the cap with the $16 million franchise tag assigned to Landry.

Quinn is a very reliable defensive end that will help Miami on the outside but the question is where does he fit in? Miami has second year Charles Harris returning, Andre Branch, and Cameron Wake. They have not made a decision on Hayes who will be a free agent.

Quinn has 54 sacks in his career and 175 tackles. He also has 21 career forced fumbles. Many are already surmising that the addition could spell the end of Cameron Wake in Miami. Wake is scheduled to make $8.6 million in 2018 with all but $500,000 recovered if released or traded.

Earlier this off-season Quinn was rumored to be a part of the Marcus Peters trade with Kansas City but the Chiefs opted for draft compensation instead. Quinn will count just over $10 million in 2018 and just over $11 million in 2019. The move eliminates a need for defensive end help unless of course the Dolphins decide to release one of their current DE’s.

Quinn is a two time Pro-Bowl DE but is coming off a back surgery that hurt his statistics in 2017. Still it’s a solid gamble for a Dolphins team needing to get more pressure off the edges.

UPDATE: The trade reportedly involves either a swap of mid-round draft picks or one of the Dolphins mid-round picks. We will update with more information when it is available.
