Miami Dolphins free agency priorities; there is a lot to do
By Brian Miller
Tight-Ends
Expect talk to ramp up once again for former Miami U alumni Jimmy Graham. Graham will hit free agency on Wednesday and this will likely be his last NFL contract. Graham’s career is waning and Miami seems to very well at overpaying for big name veteran tight-ends who can’t really compete anymore. That may not be Graham.
While Graham took a step back last year with Seattle, he still posted decent numbers. Great numbers if you compare him to Julius Thomas and Jordan Cameron. In 2017 with the Seahawks, Graham caught 57 passes and scored 10 touchdowns.
Eric Ebron of the Lions could also hit the market as could Jets TE Austin Sefarian-Jenkins. Miami has a big need at tight-end where they have Marqueis Gray, Thomas Duarte, Anthony Fasano, A.J. Derby, and Julius Thomas.
Thomas is expected to be released by Wednesday and Anthony Fasano is as well. There is a lot of potential in Derby and the Dolphins who signed him last year off waivers from the Broncos has the upside Miami is looking for but he isn’t ready to be the starter just yet.
While Miami does like Gray he too is a prospect with potential but has yet to put it all together. The Dolphins seem to like names so the tight-end position will likely get a lot of talk in the next week as Miami starts looking to fix the position.
