Did Miami Dolphins off-season moves bring “culture change?”
By Brian Miller
William Hayes
Another defensive end that was expected to leave Miami via free agency, Hayes was re-signed to a one year deal and if he can return from his injury last season, which he should, Miami will have one of the best run stopping defensive ends in the NFL on the roster for another year.
Hayes wasn’t expensive and it is surprising that he didn’t draw more interest around the league. He stays pretty healthy but the back injury he had last season may be a concern for other teams. Haye’s biggest knock has been his ability to get to quarterbacks and that has reduced him more or less to obvious running situations.
In 2017 however Hayes didn’t do a bad job of moving up field. He was able to apply pressure and added one sack on the season. In his 10 games for the Dolphins playing off the bench, Hayes had a combined 19 tackles, 14 of them solo.
More importantly is the fact that Hayes is well liked in the locker room and gets a long with his teammates well.
