Miami Dolphins top five positions of need and why

Running Back
Kenyan Drake is the starter and behind him is anyone’s guess. Damien Williams is doing the free agent tour circuit but the interest has been lukewarm. Miami hosted DeMarco Murray but he left without a contract. C.J. Anderson was a name that had been mentioned but the Broncos opted to keep the running back despite potentially trading him to Miami.
The last three starters at running back for the Dolphins have come from rounds three, four, and five. Drake, Jay Ajayi, and Lamar Miller.
Miami has found success with mid-round talents so it is very possible that they don’t address the position until round three or four. This years class is deep and that will help the Dolphins find a suitable back-up for Drake.
Derrius Guice of LSU has received some mock draft interest for the Dolphins as has Georgia running back Nick Chubb. Both are pegged as day two draft picks.
The five positions listed all come with concerns either by depth or a need for a starter at that position. Miami has to focus on both the short and long-term of the franchise with this years draft and the Dolphins can’t afford to reach for players early in the draft to develop. Miami needs to find plug and play players on the first two days to fill some of these needs.
