Will the Miami Dolphins trade up in the draft? Some still think so

The Miami Dolphins have not made any noise about trading up in the draft next month but there are those who still believe we might see a surprise jump at some point.

A major key to any trade up would be the player Miami wants actually being on the board. Unlike the Buffalo Bills, Miami can wait until they see how the chips fall. If a quarterback is what they covet they can sit back and see how the top half of the first ten picks plays out.

The Bills on the other hand have to draft a quarterback and that means they will need to move up, potentially up to the number two position. It will be costly but teams know they are in a bad situation because they traded up to 12 for a reason and it’s not to sit there.

Miami on the other hand can, as stated, let it unfold. If it is indeed Baker Mayfield that Miami wants how far up would they need to move to get him and how much are they willing to pay. Maybe nothing.

If the draft falls right, Mayfield could still be on the board at 11 but I wouldn’t count on that. There are those who believe that Miami is blowing smoke and creating a veil of secrecy over who they really want. Maybe that is true. There are others who believe that Miami really does want Mayfield.

What is also divided is the opinions which vary on whether or not the Dolphins will make a move on draft day or before. I would not count on a trade before the draft because you risk not having the player you really want when you go on the clock.

While many believe Miami will stay put at 11 there are plenty out there that believe Miami will trade away the 11th pick, a second round pick  maybe two, and a first round pick next year. One media member believes that the Dolphins will be a big mover on Draft day.

On NFL Network, Jim Mora said that he believes the Dolphins will move up in the draft. Why is this significant? There has been talk about Mora and his relationship with Mike Tannenbaum. The two are apparently good friends so is this conjecture on his part or does he know something?

It is conjecture. Tannenbaum has no idea if he will be able to move up or if the opportunity even presents itself.

One thing is for certain, for every person who believes Miami will move up in the draft there is a person who believes they will stay put.
