Miami Dolphins – Vita Vea – DT

This is a pick that changes back and forth between Vea and Alabama’s Da’Ron Payne. Both are quick athletes who can get off blocks at the line of scrimmage to make plays. Both are good at stopping the run while Payne is a little better against the pass.

Defensive tackle isn’t fancy or something that Adam Gase wants to do but his options at this point are limited barring a move up the draft order, an expensive option to be sure.

Chances of quarterback Mayfield landing in the Dolphins lap is slim and it is looking less likely that a top linebacker will fall to them as well. Miami could look to add Denzel Ward, a corner, to the mix but they believe in the Codrea Tankersley and Xavien Howard tandem for now.

While Miami could opt for Quenin Nelson they really have no need for a guard and it is too early to draft a tight-end. Miami really doesn’t have a choice but to go defense unless a quarterback falls.

In Vea the Dolphins are getting a strong defensive lineman that will be a day one starter who will rotate with Davon Godchaux and Jordan Phillips. The loss of Suh leaves a hole and there is no guarantees on Phillps beyond this year.
