2008 NFL Draft – Jake Long
There was no suspense in the 2008 NFL Draft for the Miami Dolphins as the team had already locked up Jake Long to a contract a week before the draft began. Miami held the number one overall pick and in their first year under Bill Parcells began the process of breaking down and rebuilding the roster. It started with the offensive line.
Many still believe that Miami should have drafted quarterback Matt Ryan who is still in the NFL. They should have. Long was an exceptional left tackle the first three seasons of his career but a back injury would end his next two seasons prematurely and Long would not be re-signed when his rookie contract expired. He would join the St. Louis Rams before the injuries got to the point where his NFL career was over.
Believe it or not only two players from this class still play in the NFL. QB Chad Henne has carved out a career as a back-up with the Jaguars and now with the Chiefs and third round pick, Kendall Langford finished last season with the Houston Texans.
