2009 NFL Draft – Vontae Davis
Vontae Davis may be more known to Dolphins fans as wanting to “call my grandma” after being notified of his trade to the Colts but Davis’ career in Miami was setting up to be stellar. Davis was a solid corner for the Dolphins and paired with Sean Smith the Dolphins had the making of a shutdown corner tandem.
Davis however couldn’t stay conditioned and Miami recognized that Davis’ desire to stay fit might be a problem so they traded him in 2012 after three seasons. Sean Smith on the other hand played out his rookie deal and moved to the Chiefs in free agency where he continued to develop well. Smith however is out of the league and will be going to prison for a year after a battery charge.
This draft class would be the last class controlled by Parcells as he would turn over those duties to Jeff Ireland. Parcells would leave the team and the NFL all together a season later.
