Dolphins DeVante Parker is still “one day at a time”

The Miami Dolphins wide-receiver coach Ben Johnson talked to the media today but he didn’t have a rave review about DeVante Parker.

To preface this, Johnson didn’t have anything bad to say about DeVante Parker either. Much like his first three seasons, Parker simply, is.

At today’s presser, Isaiah Ford was a hot topic with four of the questions directed to Johnson about him. Surprisingly only one was about Parker. Should there be a cause for concern?

"(How have you seen WR DeVante Parker’s development coming along so far?) – “He’s done a great job. Like I said in the springtime, we’re going one day at a time with him. We’re going to have some bad days in there, but we’re just looking to keep stacking as many good ones in a row as possible. He’s trending in the right direction right now. We’ve got to keep developing him and get him going; but we’re really, really excited about him as well.”"

To my knowledge there are no injury recovery issues with Parker so I’m a bit surprised by “We are going one day at a time with him” comment. Why exactly? Did I miss something one of my two vacations? Seriously, I want to know.

The reason is that I can’t understand why we are still talking about the coaching staff bringing him along one day at a time. Something that Johnson said back in May as well. Perhaps this is because last year they had hyped him up for a big breakout season that never materialized.

Through the first four days of camp there hasn’t been much about Parker in the media or on social media from fans in attendance. It’s more or less he is out there working but not making anything stand out.

Another comment that I find a tad troubling is “We’re going to have some bad days”. Parker is entering his fourth NFL season and I would think that during practices a four-year veteran wouldn’t have “bad-days” at least not to the point that a coach would say something. Johnson said they are hoping to stack good ones. Have they yet?

Aside from the comment “He’s done a great job.” to open the answer there wasn’t much to get excited about. They are developing him. So says Johnson. For all the hype that came with Parker on draft day and the months afterwards, we are still left wondering if he will ever breakout.

Next. Amendol and Tannehill is definitely a thing. dark
