The Dolphins will hold their team scrimmage on Saturday ahead of their preseason schedule that will begin later this week against Tampa Bay.

The Miami Dolphins are scheduling a team scrimmage at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday, August 4th, at 11:00 AM. For those that have played football in high school, or even at a collegiate-level, understands that a team scrimmage is basically a glorified practice.

The key difference here is that the scrimmage will be held at Hard Rock instead of their normal practice facility in Davie. The idea behind a scrimmage is for coaches to get the team mentally prepared for game preparation. Head coach Adam Gase said that he plans to go through the same motions with the team as they will during their preseason schedule.

"“Really, it’s the dress rehearsal for our preseason games. We try to keep everything close to what we’re going to do in our preseason opener – how players come out of the locker room, how we do things pregame, our pregame meal at the stadium. It’s all of those little things to where if you’ve been here you’ve gone through it before, it’s not as big a deal. If you’re new, it’s like your dry run. Understanding how to get to the stadium, where do you go, where do you park and then locker room, what we’re doing, how you get stretched out before the game, the routine pregame with everybody on the field, who comes out when."

Gase added that the scrimmage will include a combination of 11-on-11 drills, 7-on-7 drills, as well as some special teams mixed in. He is not sure at this time whether or not they will be tackling during the scrimmage. Do not expect anyone to be keeping score, however.

As I mentioned, a team scrimmage is nothing more than a glorified practice, but it gives the team, particularly the rookies, an understanding of game preparation. Fans that wish to attend the scrimmage can, and the price of admission is free of charge. They are encouraged, however, to arrive at the stadium as early as possible as seating will be on a first come, first serve basis.

The Dolphins first scheduled preseason game will be this coming Thursday, August 9th, at Hard Rock Stadium against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The transcript piece of Adam Gase is courtesy of MiamiDolphins.com.
