The Miami Dolphins have broken camp and are now focusing on the 2018 season as they continue moving through the pre-season schedule.

August is a time for optimism. A time when almost every fan of every team disregards the naysayers and truly believes their team will make the playoffs and maybe even the Super Bowl. As Miami Dolphins fans, we have mastered the art of having super high expectations in August, only to be disappointed in December.

The question is can the Dolphins not dissappoint. As we sit here in August with the optimism running high, we have to acknowledge that some players are going to need a breakout season.

So in true Dolphins fashion, let’s take a look at the good in this team and overlook everything bad about it. Here are Five Dolphins who are set to tear apart the league this season.

  1. Mike Gesicki

Rarely in the NFL does a rookie tight ends find a lot of success in year one. Even the best have had their struggles in their rookie year, both Rob Gronkowski (546 yards in his rookie year) and Tony Gonzalez (368 yards in his first season) failed to eclipse 600 yards in their first year in the league.

Gronkowski had over 1300 yards the following season and hasn’t looked back since, and Gonzalez went on to have an incredible Hall of Fame career. We have seen it time and time again that rookie tight ends don’t have tremendous seasons in year one. However, Dolphins’ rookie 2nd round pick tight end Mike Gesicki, has put his ridiculous athletic ability on display during training camp and is showing why his rookie can be different from most other tight ends.

We’ve all heard it before, Mike Gesicki can’t block. But does he need to? The Dolphins can use Gesicki almost as a receiver in his first year if his blocking becomes too much of a liability.

Gesicki is a matchup nightmare for defenses. He’s too fast and athletic for most linebackers and he’s tall and physical for most cornerbacks. He should be almost unstoppable in the red zone and don’t be surprised if he leads the team in touchdowns because of his height and agility.

Mike Gesicki should soon become one of the best pass-catching tight ends in the league.
