Miami Dolphins organization has high hopes for 2018
The Miami Dolphins have high hopes for the 2018 season, and have made plenty of changes to the roster during the off season, through free agency and the draft.
From the end of the 2017 season until now, one week before the regular season starts, Miami’s top brass has turned over almost every rock, looking for players who fit head coach Adam Gase’s system. It’s an effort to bring back hope to a franchise that has been beaten and battered for years. This year we get to see the vision that Gase was selling three years ago when he became the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
Since Charles Clay left for Buffalo, there hasn’t been a decent tight end on the team, not one that was a playmaker anyway. Fast forward to today. That has changed since draft day. In the second round Miami selected Mike Gesicki. Through the sweltering hot Florida sun, Gesicki has climbed his way to a starting job with the first team offense. Gase has kept a tight lid on the subject not wanting to show his weapons. Gesicki looks to be the real deal and a difference maker.
This years draft may pay more dividends than expected, here is why.
Minkah Fitzpatrick, we are not completely sure how he will be used in defensive coordinator Matt Burke’s scheme, but we do know he will have an impact each game he plays. In a positive way. Coach Gase stated in an interview, that Fitzpatrick is always around the ball. That shows he has great anticipation and a high football IQ.
There are other players that have been added this year through either the draft or free agency. In free agency, there is no better name to mention than Robert Quinn. You should hear that name mentioned often. Head coach Adam Gase stated that VP Mike Tannenbaum and GM Chris Greer called Gase and told him Quinn was available, and Gase replied “get him”. Robert Quinn is a defensive end and a sack machine, and with the rotation of Charles Harris, they are both going to stay fresh. This year the defensive line looks like it could be poised for a large sack total as well as many hurried pass attempts.
I could go on about how each roster addition this off-season has brought more hope than previous years, but we will save it for future posts.
