Miami Dolphins make another move but this one makes a lot of sense
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins have been very active over the last few days adding and subtracting players from theirs roster. Some haven’t made a lot of sense.
Late yesterday the Miami Dolphins made a move that does make sense. After safety Maurice Smith was cut, cleared waivers, the Dolphins brought him back to the practice squad. To make room they unloaded a running back.
Miami was stacked at running back especially after adding Brandon Boldin to the roster on Tuesday. Jeremy Langford was simply out-of-place so the Dolphins let him go to add Smith to the practice unit. It would be a big surprise if Smith stays there all season.
Boldin will contribute immediately on special teams and Smith will at some point likely end up on the 53 man roster as well. Over the last several days the Dolphins have made some odd moves as they continue to roll over the bottom of their roster.
Miami released offensive tackle Sam Young, then re-signed him. They added center Travis Swanson then released him a day later. It looks as though things may start to quiet down as the team gets ready for the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
Miami still has five running backs on their roster. Kenyan Drake, Frank Gore, Sinorise Perry, Kalen Ballage, and Boldin. There simply was no need for Langford on the practice squad. How far into the season Miami carries four running backs isn’t known. Perhaps they are hoping for a trade offer for Perry at some point. He played extremely well in pre-season.
The Dolphins also continue to carry four quarterbacks into Sunday. Of course not all of them will be active. The team claimed Luke Falk off waivers from Tennessee but is he a two-week addition to scout the Titans or does Adam Gase see a lot of potential in him? Miami is also carrying Ryan Tannehill, Brock Osweiler, and David Fales. Adam Gase has said he plans to carry three quarterbacks all season.
