Post Game Recap Miami Dolphins Titans- The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
The Miami Dolphins and the Tennessee Titans played one of the weirdest games in NFL history and there was good, bad, and some ugly on both sides.
Following the Dolphins matchup with the Titans, we recap the good, bad, and the ugly following the win.
The good:
Frank Gore showed why he is timeless with some massive runs that led directly to our first touchdown. He showed patience, recognition, and some downhill speed. With many supposing Drake as the majority carrier, Gore demonstrated why he is not to be overlooked.
Rashad Jones came up with some INSANELY important plays including an interception late in the game that resulted in a big field goal to seal the game. His ability to get to the ball and create plays is special and he was a game changer.
Minkah Fitzpatrick made the most important tackle of the game with a textbook stick-em in the first quarter that saved a touchdown. The youngster showed displays of brilliance time and time again and it won’t be long before he is considered one of the best defensive players in the game.
The bad:
Special team coverage gave up field position all game and not to forget the 7 points. Missed tackles, open lanes, mental mistakes littered the long day. Against a team like Tennessee at home, it was forgivable, however, against stronger teams that may be the straw that breaks Miami.
Play calling was something that I continue to pull my hair out about. The offense lines in certain formations that telegraph what they are going to do. The interception to Gisicki, the empty backfields on first/second downs, and the insistent bubble screens that Gase refuses to back down on all make the game plan easy for opposing defenses.
The Ugly:
Miami’s offensive tackles are just disappointments. Pre-snap penalties, holding calls, and backfield pressure were the MO of Laremy Tunsil and Ja’wuan James. Both of these players were high draft picks that have been given more than enough opportunity to fill their potential and they keep making mistakes that crush drives. It’s becoming old.
TJ McDonald had a bad game. Like a really bad game. Out of all the lessons Adam Gase learned his first two years as head coach, the one that rings mostly true is never give big contracts to players who haven’t earned it. TJ is a major liability in coverage, allowing a huge play early in the game, and then before the first delay GOT RAN THE @#$% OVER. For a player who earns his bread as a neck breaking run stopper, that was horrible.
Looking forward:
Miami travels to New York to face the rebuilding Jets. I was thrilled to get an early game in New York with their green rookie QB Sam Darnold. Look for interesting blitz packages as the Dolphins will attempt to get the rookie to make bad decisions and worse throws.
