Linebackers

Raekwon McMillan is finding what essentially has become his rookie season a bit of a struggle. He hasn’t played horribly but there is definitely some learning that has to be done. He is being outshined by rookie Jerome Baker who is playing very good through two weeks.

Kiko Alonso is the star of the defense but Alonso has struggled with the long season and at some point will be banged up. There is no doubt about that given how hard he is hitting early on. The Dolphins need to recognize this issue with the unit. Baker and McMillan should be around a long time but Alonso is a different story and finding a replacement sooner rather than later makes a lot of sense. Another second or third round prospect will add much-needed depth.

One area the Dolphins must improve in is linebackers in coverage. The Dolphins move S/CB Minkah Fitzpatrick around and at times will only play two linebackers in their base defense but they need to find a linebacker who can cover the tight-end and running backs out of the back-field.

While things thus far are going well and expectations are high that improvement through the course of the season will continue, it’s an area that will likely need attention in the off-season.
