Ryan Tannehill and the Miami Dolphins earned an exciting victory on Sunday, beating the Oakland Raiders 28-20 at Hard Rock Stadium. It was a wild game which started with poor offensive play in the first half and ended with exciting big plays that allowed Miami to come back and secure the win.

I will continue my look into Ryan Tannehill’s performances with a breakdown of how he fared against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Over the last two weeks, Tannehill has put together quality games and this Sunday was no different.

In fact, I believe Tannehill put together his best performance of the season against Oakland,  going 17 of 23 for 289 yards and 3 touchdowns. Once again, Tannehill looked sharp, poised and decisive when it came to throwing the ball. He didn’t have the same rushing numbers that he had against the Jets last week, but he did pace the team with 26 yards on the ground (something to discuss in another article).

To be fair, two of Tannehill’s touchdown passes came off of shovel passes that Jakeem Grant and Albert Wilson turned into points off of huge runs. Tannehill’s first touchdown, however, was a beautifully thrown ball that found Kenny Stills in the back of the endzone. This was one of Tannehill’s better throws of his career and kept Miami in the game.

More importantly for the offense holistically, Tannehill didn’t seem to hold on to the ball too long on Sunday. Sure, every once in a while he did, but for the most part, it seemed that he got the ball out in a reasonable amount of time. He was only sacked once and seemed to have a good feel for the pressure that Oakland sent his way. He also wrapped up the day with a QBR of 91.7 and a passer rating of 155.3, meaning he made the right plays at the right time.

I have been impressed with Tannehill’s performances throughout the early part of the season and yesterday was by far the most impressive. He seems to be getting into a great rhythm and making great throws. Tannehill needs to keep this momentum as a showdown with the New England Patriots is on the horizon.
