Miami Dolphins ready for “David and Goliath” type battle
This week the Miami Dolphins will suit up, and go head on with the AFC East champions, in what could be a war in a “David and Goliath” type battle for the crown.
The New England Patriots have been the bully on the block for years, and in doing so has earned them the crown of the AFC East. Each year the Miami Dolphins, the New York Jets, and the Buffalo Bills all hold hopes and dreams, of knocking the Patriots off their throne.
This year the Patriots have had a rough start, with the main target of Tom Brady’s aerial attack being TE Rob Gronkowski. The ”Gronk” is 6’6 and 268 lbs, and that’s big, and he is hard to cover and even harder to tackle. Miami has had issues covering tight-ends for years, but who will cover this goliath named Rob Gronkowski? Matt Burke will have his hands full trying to figure that out Sunday at 1:00, lets hope he has the right answer.
Another goliath on this team is QB Tom Brady. Standing at 6’4 and at 225 lbs Brady is in his 19th year for the New England Patriots. Brady has totaled 66,803 passing yards with 494 touch-down passes and another 17 rushing td’s. Will anyone ever be able to fill those shoes?
Tom Brady was drafted in 2000 by the New England Patriots in the 6th round, but what is most remarkable is being drafted in the 6th round as an NFL quarterback and never having a losing season, not one, yet. Super bowl trips? As a Dolphin fan you don’t keep track of how many times your rival succeeds, but it has been too many for too long, and it begs the question, is this the year the Miami Dolphins unseat the Patriots for the crown?
The Miami Dolphins go into this game 3-0, but that does not matter, it is a new week a different team and a new challenge, and against New England on their own turf, it wont be easy.
But the Dolphins face a few of their own giants, in trying to convert on 3rd down, as well as getting the defense off the field on 3rd down, run blocking, covering tight-ends, stopping the run. The Dolphins are playing on the road, which is no easy task, especially in Foxboro against a division rival, and they need to show more improvement again this week.
Defensive end’s Cameron Wake and Robert Quinn will need to get pressure on Brady, disrupt his rhythm, make him uncomfortable in the pocket, and disrupt his timing with his receivers. The defense’s number one objective needs to be cripple the giant and make Brady irrelevant.
Miami has a chance to pull off a win here, but they must play better, the play calling must be better, this win needs to be convincing, and the Dolphins have not played their best football yet. If Miami can get the running game going, and produce 120 yards from the back field, they will have a very good chance to win this battle in Foxboro.
