Breaking: Miami Dolphins injuries mount with another lost for the season
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins got beat up on the football field Sunday and Monday the bad news continued as the Dolphins lost two starters. One for the season.
On Monday the Miami Dolphins got the news they didn’t want to hear. Starting center Daniel Kilgore will likely be out for the season with a torn triceps and Bobby McCain will miss time with a knee injury. Both players Miami made moves for on the offensive line this season are now gone for the year.
After week two the Dolphins lost starting left guard Josh Sitton to a torn rotator cuff and now the starting center is out. Miami lost Kilgore midway through the game on Sunday and his replacement, Travis Swanson didn’t play very well.
Defensively the Dolphins are more than just banged up. Andre Branch is still at least three weeks from returning from his knee injury and now the Dolphins secondary, already without Reshad Jones, will be without starting corner Bobby McCain. McCain is likely to miss three to four weeks with a knee injury.
The Dolphins made it through training camp almost unscathed but the injury bug must have been simply waiting for the season to start. The question now is what does Miami do to replace them?
Miami now has a starting lineup on the injured list. William Hayes is out for the year as well. Depth was a concern for Miami coming into the season and now that same depth will be decide how far the Dolphins season can go and whether they can hold their one game lead over New England the rest of the year.
Miami has not made any moves just yet and while they should get Reshad Jones back this week or next there are now more missing pieces on both sides of the ball that will need to be replaced. At this time of year the free agent list isn’t all that and trades are relatively hard to make especially when you do not have a lot of spending cash. Miami currently is estimated to be around $9 million in cap space.
It is still early in the season but the Dolphins need to find a way to keep players healthy and on the field. In addition to the injuries listed above, Ja’Wuan James was reportedly taken out of the game on Sunday due to issues related to health. The Dolphins did not discuss his condition with the media only that it was not a performance based removal.
The Dolphins will travel to Cincinnati this week and will return to practice on Wednesday.
