After failing to impress anyone in week four the Miami Dolphins look to rebound but one key to a potential victory is Cameron Wake.

The Miami Dolphins and Cameron Wake take on the Bengals this week up in Cincinnati with a lot on the line. After coming off one of the worst defeats in a few years against the Patriots, Miami will be looking to recover and re-establish themselves as a credible team in the AFC playoff picture.

Cincinnati has been playing well this season, boasting a 3-1 record while posting the 4th highest points per game average and the 12th best yards through the air. If Miami wants to stand a chance against this team, they will need their pass rush, which at times disappeared against the Patriots, to rediscover themselves and put consistent pressure on Andy Dalton.

That is why my player of the week is none other than Cameron Wake.

Wake has been a perennial powerhouse for the Dolphins at defensive end. He is a top quality player who seems to get better and better as he ages. He is a consistent force on the defense who can step up against the run and put pressure on the quarterback. This season, however, it seems Wake has gotten off to a slow start.

Wake has 8 tackles on the year and has only notched 1 sack so far during the season’s first quarter. Miami will need Wake to step up on Sunday and have a big game in order to shut down the Bengal’s potent passing attack. Just like any quarterback, the more pressure they face the more prone to mistakes they ultimately are and if Wake can get in Dalton’s face, even if it doesn’t end in a sack, it will make a considerable difference in the game.

  • The 36 year old will be going up against right tackle Jake Fisher, who has had a decent start to the season. Wake will have to get back to his old ways of beating tackles off the snap and speeding around them to get to the quarterback. Wake had some success against the Patriots, but will need to be even better if he is going to lead the team to a very important win on Sunday.

Wake is, and always has been, one of the best at his positions and solidified himself in Dolphin’s mythology with his yearly double digit sacks. Miami desperately needs a big game from their star defensive end to help shake off the bad feelings surrounding the loss to New England and start building something for the rest of the season.
