The Miami Dolphins are five games into the 2018 season and despite a winning record, they still find a way to disappoint their fans.

French critic, journalist, and novelist, Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr is credited with a translated quote in the 1800’s that says,  “the more things change, the more they stay the same.”

This saying epitomizes the Miami Dolphins’ franchise of the past 20 years.  Two days removed from the Dolphins’ epic meltdown in Cincinnati and I’m still not over it.

The Dolphins were not supposed to win the game.  I actually expected this game to go in the loss column, but when your team plays lights out defense for much of the game your feelings tend to change.  I got excited by the performance they showed on the field early.  I dared to think, maybe we were becoming a winning team.

Winning organizations and teams take 17 point leads in the second half of games and convert them into wins.  A road win, against a good Bengals team would have been a great next step in the evolution of becoming a good team.

Unfortunately, the Dolphins of years past showed up in the second half to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!  Bad play calling, injuries, stupid penalties, dumb decisions.  You name it, they did it.  Undisciplined football.

My question is, how do the Dolphins get off this carousel of mediocrity?  The organization has changed coaches, they’ve changed GMs, they change players yearly, yet the team continually makes the same mistakes and finds new ways to lose and embarrass itself and its fans.  Is this the price the football gods are making us pay for the perfect season 46 years ago or for the 17 years we got to enjoy a guy named Marino?  If so, I can’t wait for the Patriot’s bill to come due.

Some say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.  If that’s the case, call this team insane.

It’s time for the Dolphins to do something different soon, because a very good Chicago Bears team is coming to town this Sunday.
