The Miami Dolphins opted to release offensive lineman Sam Young on Saturday after a miserable game last week against the Bengals.

On Saturday the Miami Dolphins made the decision to release veteran offensive lineman Sam Young and promoted defensive tackle Jamiyus Pittman from the practice squad. The move comes after the Dolphins got Laremy Tunsil back from the concussion protocol.

The Miami Dolphins roster now lists two centers, Wesley Johnson and Travis Swanson, one G/C Ted Larsen, and four tackles, Tunsil, Ja’Wuan James, Jesse Davis, and Zach Sterup. Once again the Dolphins offensive line is incredibly thin heading into this weekend.

Sitting on the practice squad is Isaac Asiata who still can’t do enough to get on the active roster despite all the injuries. At some point the Dolphins are going to have to make a decision on his future.

With Sam Young now gone the Dolphins surprisingly have not looked to the outside for help. Earlier this week the New York Giants released former first round pick left tackle Erek Flowers. Flowers has been a largely disappointing tackle since arriving in the NFL two years ago. The Dolphins showed little or no interest in him and he signed with the Jaguars.

The Dolphins cannot afford to carry this lineup of lineman through the next eleven games of the season. For starters they are not very good and injuries will happen. Ja’Wuan James is a candidate for an injury at some point. He was taken out of the New England game due to an injury. It is possible and likely that Young re-joins the Dolphins sometime in the next week or two.

Pittman will give the Dolphins some added depth in their defensive front rotation. While there is no guarantee that he will be active today the release of Young seems to signify that he will be as he apparently is a needed body on the field.

The Dolphins will face their toughest defense of the season. The Bears rank near the top in sacks, quarterback pressures, and stopping the run.
