Brock Osweiler shines but no QB controversy for the Miami Dolphins
By Brian Miller
On Sunday the Miami Dolphins pulled off a big game when they needed it the most and Brock Osweiler shined but there is no QB controversy.
It is unclear if starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill will make it back next week for the Lions because no one really expected him to miss Sunday’s Bears game. In his absence Brock Osweiler led the offense to its biggest scoring output of the season last seasons week 13 35 points against the Broncos.
Fans have been wanting Ryan Tannehill’s head after the last two weeks of play but they didn’t want Osweiler. Now that they have seen Osweiler lead not one but two comebacks in the fourth quarter and overtime some are ready to see what he can bring for the rest of the season.
They need to slow down. There is no quarterback controversy and this really looks more like another number eight that people were clamoring for. Matt Moore. Moore was very good coming in at the last-minute and winning a game but he was never a longer solution. Osweiler is that guy with all the pedigree and starting experience but there is a reason he isn’t starting in the NFL.
Tannehill may not be the team’s future franchise quarterback but when he is healthy he can be good enough to win as evidenced by the teams 3-0 start. Much like Osweiler, Tannehill needs great play from the supporting cast.
On Sunday, Osweiler was hardly if ever touched the entire game. The offensive line did better than just doing their jobs. They handled the top rated Bears front defensive lineman and controlled the trench. The receivers game Osweiler big targets and when the Bears took away parts of that game Albert Wilson stepped up to take the game over.
Miami has a lot of season left and 4-2 is a better start than most believed was possible but they are tied in the AFC East with the Patriots. The play of the quarterback through the next ten weeks will go a long way in determining the seasons success but for now, this is Ryan Tannehill’s team and he can’t physically play. There is no quarterback and will not be a quarterback controversy. Nor should there be.
