On Sunday the Miami Dolphins sat Ryan Tannehill with a shoulder injury and turned to Brock Osweiler to lead the offense against the Bears.

I feel the need to be honest with all readers: I never thought I would write an article giving out a “player of the game” honor to Brock Osweiler the Miami Dolphin’s backup quarterback. After watching the way he played, however, there is no way that Brock Osweiler’s performance can be ignored and he is more than deserving of this week’s player of the game.

Stepping in for the injured Ryan Tannehill, many thought, myself included, that today’s game would not go well. I was pleasantly surprised with the performance that Osweiler put together as the starter.

Osweiler put together a career day going completing 28 for 44 passes for 3 touchdowns and two interceptions. He played good, quality football that needs to be recognized. He made great plays throughout the whole game and looked poised and confident in his decision-making.

Down 21-10, Osweiler put the team on his shoulders and orchestrated 3 scoring drives before regulation ended and put together 2 quality drives that ultimately ended in a Dolphins victory.

Osweiler’s teammates helped him out as well. His offensive line gave him time to throw the ball and kept the daunting Bears defense from wrecking the game. His receivers made plays when they needed to and the running game kept the ball moving and the offense on the field.

In reality, however, all of these things were possible because Osweiler looked poised and comfortable throwing the ball and leading this unit. He made plays that other quarterbacks on the roster may not have made and kept the offenses spirits up even after big turnovers.

I don’t think that Osweiler should be the starter based on this performance. He is still the backup and when Tannehill gets healthy, he will go back to being on the sideline. Yet he deserves a lot of credit for the team’s big win and should be thanked by all fans, players and coaches for keeping Miami in this game all along.
