Ryan Tannehill could miss 1-3 weeks Brock Osweiler will take over

The news out of Miami Dolphins camp is not great. It is being reported that Ryan Tannehill could miss 2-3 weeks due to his shoulder injury.
If that is the case, Ryan Tannehill will be replaced in the lineup by Brock Osweiler. Last week Osweiler started his first game as a Dolphin and led them to a win. Critical games are on the horizon so logically the question is can he repeat it?
That might be a discussion for a different time and down the road a bit but for now the questions really surround Ryan Tannehill and the biggest question is what does this mean for his future with the Dolphins? First we need to understand what is going on with him.
So far we don’t really know anything. The Miami Dolphins are evaluating him and he was not practicing today according to local media. They believe he will definitely miss Sunday’s game against the Lions. Beyond that is where the uncertainty lies.
Adam Gase told reporters following Sunday’s game that Tannehill was hurt on the strip sack late against Cincinnati two weekends ago. Some have speculated that it could be a torn labrum and needing surgery but most believe that is not the case.
The Dolphins are going to “evaluate” him over the next week or two and determine what needs to be done. Thus far there is nothing but rest being prescribed in the hopes of seeing this heal itself.
That should ring a “been there heard that” bell in the heads of fans. Two off-season ago’s Tannehill was told to rest his knee and not get surgery. These of course are two totally different issues but a shoulder injury on a quarterback can end a career or at least delay it quite a while.
On to his future with the Dolphins. At this point Tannehill is still expected to return this season and no matter how well Brock Osweiler plays there will not be a quarterback controversy. Beyond this year it is all speculation depending on what happens with the shoulder but if the Miami Dolphins are smart they may want to start watching tape on projected first round quarterbacks for next years draft.
