The Miami Dolphins for the first time all season are no longer in first place in the AFC East after dropping their seventh game of the season.

Hosting the Detroit Lions at Hard Rock Stadium the Miami Dolphins simply could not control or contain the Lions rushing game which went well over the 250 yard mark. Offensively the Dolphins struggled continued and despite the offense scoring a couple of touchdowns, it simply wasn’t enough to overcome the Lions who easily relied on their running game and Kerryon Johnson to control the momentum.

Miami tried to make it a game late but once again on a third down, a pass interference call extended a Lions drive ending with a field goal. The field goal put the Lions ahead 32-21 with less than two minutes to go. Miami’s Jason Sanders missed a late field goal with 48 seconds left locking the Lions victory.

The Lions controlled the game from the start scoring on their first possession after stopping the Dolphins on their first drive to open the game. It was all Detroit from there. Matt Stafford did not face much pressure on the day and the Lions under former Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia used quick passes and the running game to soften the Dolphins defense.

Meanwhile the New England Patriots used two special teams touchdowns to get past the Chicago Bears in Chicago. The win puts the Patriots one and a half games up on Miami.

One other leading story out of today’s game was the injuries. Miami suffered injuries to Albert Wilson, possible right knee injury, Mike Gesicki with a concussion, Kenny Stills injured his shoulder but returned. Jerome Baker also was taken to the med tent but he too returned.

Miami has been dealing with injuries each week. It’s unclear what the Wilson injury is but if it is substantial, Miami may start rethinking the trade of DeVante Parker they have rumored to be looking for.
