Jakeem Grant speed will be the key to beating the Texans
By Nick Belotto
With injuries facing the wide receiving corp, Miami will look to Jakeem Grant to help pick up the slack, making him my player of the week.
Miami lost a big game at home on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Unfortunately, they lost a lot more than the game. Both Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson went down with injuries that will keep them out of the game against the Houston Texans. Miami is already down their starting quarterback and with their top two receiving threats banged up, somebody will need to step up and make plays to keep the passing game alive.
Jakeem Grant is poised to be that guy.
Grant has had a decent season so far for the Dolphins. He has 216 yards through the air and two touchdowns. He is also a threat in the return game, as he has 3 touchdowns from punt and kick returns. He had a huge game against the Raiders, going for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns, but his production has slipped since then.
Part of that is due to the weapons at Miami’s disposal. With Wilson, Stills and Danny Amendola, Jakeem Grant is not on the field as often and doesn’t get the same amount of opportunities to make plays.
With the injuries stacking up against the Dolphins, Grant will need to take a bigger role in the offense for Miami to come out of Houston with a win. Miami needs their little playmaker to be just that: a playmaker.
Grant will need to be active on Thursday night. He will need to make a statement on offense by getting himself open in his routes and making big plays. On the special teams side of things, putting Miami’s offense in great field position is going to help take some of the pressure off of Brock Osweiler to make plays.
The cards are stacked against the Dolphins this week but if Grant can make the plays that Miami knows he can make, the Dolphins will stand a chance Thursday night.
