The Miami Dolphins have a stellar press box and it is a great place to watch a football game but it comes with some restrictions.

Last weekend I had the opportunity to sit in the Miami Dolphins press box for the first time in my 11 year writing career. If you want to call it a career. My nerves leading up to that Sunday was definitely getting the better of me as the day approached.

Over the time that I have spent writing about the Dolphins and visits I have made to the team head quarters and training facility I have tried to capture that image and pass it along to our readers. This experience is no different. So try to picture what I am going to try to explain.

Sunday morning came early last week. My clothes hung in the closet at my hotel. They didn’t have the Dolphins logo and were not team colors. They were simply business casual which is the requested dress code. I arrived at the stadium around 9:30 with my credentials in hand and made my way with Dave Buchler of Finatics.com to the media entry door at Hard Rock Stadium. Dave and I have known each other for a very long time and it was his first trip to the press box as well.

The media gate is located on the Southwest side of the stadium. You go through a quick security check and then to a rather mundane door that takes you into the stadium ground floor. An elevator to the right takes you upstairs.

As the elevator door opens a picture hangs on the wall of Don Shula and the late Edwin Pope, the long time former writer for whom the press box is named after. My first impression? It was a lot bigger than I thought it would be.

Years ago I had taken a tour of the press box prior to a game and it was a lot smaller so the stadium upgrades came to the box as well. The image above is to the left and it is just a bit longer if you look at it to the right. Behind the wall above and to the left is the elevator that brings you to the box.

Traveling past the elevator is a dining hall. It’s not huge but it is spacious and the box is catered throughout most of the game including breakfast for the early arrivals. My seat is where the picture is taken.
