The Miami Dolphins have been keeping Ryan Tannehill’s injury close to the chest the last few weeks but now we have a better idea of what it is.

According to reports, the injury to Ryan Tannehill’s shoulder is now being called a “capsule injury” that requires rest but not surgery. At least no surgery for now.  On social media, @fivereasonssports reported throughout the last few weeks that the injury could indeed be a “cap” injury and it appears that they are right. For a look at what this injury is, read this article by Antwan Staley.

How bad the injury is at the moment is known but the fact that surgery is not required is promising. Tannehill will miss his 4th game of the season this weekend and in all likelihood will miss the trip to Green Bay a week later. Miami is then on their bye week so perhaps a better timeline would be after that break.

In Tannehill’s absence the offense hasn’t been as bad as many thought it would be. Instead Brock Osweiler is performing adequately enough to keep the team in games but the same slow starts and inconsistent play is still as prevalent as it was under Tannehill. The bigger issues are on the other side of the ball.

The Dolphins, despite a lot of fan speculation, are not likely to move on from Tannehill after this season. In fact he is expected to remain the teams starter in 2019 barring injury. Frankly surgery to the shoulder may not even change that. Adam Gase has been very clear that Tannehill is his quarterback.

For now it’s a waiting game. Miami needs to get Tannehill back on the field but so far he has yet to be cleared to throw passes longer than 7 yards and has not made a throw in front of the media in three weeks.
