On Sunday the Miami Dolphins played the Jets without one of their best defenders and today Adam Gase fielded the questions about Reshad Jones.

Adam Gase spoke to the media today and Reshad Jones was an early topic that Adam Gase had to discuss with the media. He made it clear that what happened on Sunday will stay between him and Jones. Frankly that is the way it should be.

Fans and media alike would love to know why the Pro-Bowl safety removed himself after the first quarter of the game and watched the rest from the sideline. It was an uncharacteristic move on the part of Jones who really has had no issues since arriving in Miami in the 5th round of the 2010 draft.

Following the game on Sunday the Reshad Jones topic took on a life of its own as everyone speculated on what happened. It’s something we will likely never know, at least not in the short-term.

Speaking with the media, Gase tried to clarify the issue without actually talking about the core of the problem. When asked if Jones did in fact pull himself from the game, Adam Gase said yes.

"“Yeah, he came up and saw me last night. He came up to the office and we talked last night. I’m still kind of going through a couple of things. I need to talk to a couple of other people but me and him are on the same page right now. That conversation between me and him, that’s where it will stay.” – Via MiamiDolphins.com"

Gase would answer the follow-up of whether or not the reason was a viable one with a simple “I know what happened and that’s where I’m going to leave it”. He said that Jones has been playing through the same injury all year but declined to comment further as to whether it was something else. He told the media that there are some things that will be cleaned up.

Of course the issue wasn’t simply laid to rest at that point. One reporter stated that he didn’t sound as though the issue was resolved because Gase mentioned there was still some things to go through.

"“Yeah, I’d say it’s less not me and him. There’s other factors involved so I’m going to get that addressed and cleaned up.”"

Gase told the media that Jones was going to play on Sunday against the Packers and that if there are any disciplinary actions it will be handled internally. The conversation turned towards defensive coordinator Matt Burke.

Jordan Phillips was recently released due to issues he had but those were never clarified even after he left. Gase is likely going to sit down with Burke in the coming days as well to discuss the issues further.

For now it’s another thorn in Gase’s side. The Dolphins are trying to turn around a season that could quickly spiral out of control and with tough games ahead on the schedule, getting everything right, now, is important.

Whatever the problem is with Reshad Jones and possibly Matt Burke will be handled accordingly. The Dolphins have the Packers and Aaron Rodgers this week before having their bye week.

Some are questioning why Gase had no inclination of a problem but he has been pretty good at leaving the defensive issues to Matt Burke now he has to get involved. The fact that he and Jones have cleared things up is a good start to fixing the problem and perhaps in the end, the decision for Jones to remove himself will allow the team to fix any internal issues that are going specifically on the defensive side of the ball.

The good news is that Jones will play on Sunday because the Dolphins are going to need their defense to be the best it can be and Jones is a big part of that unit.
