Today is the return of Miami Dolphins franchise quarterback Ryan Tannehill and all eyes will be on the 30-year-old quarterback.

Ryan Tannehill has not played a snap of football since week five against the Bengals and today will mark his return to the field. There is a lot of hope riding on the arm of Tannehill and the season could very well hang in the balance as this unfolds.

Tannehill’s shoulder injury is healed sufficiently to play today and whether or not his passes will be limited is unknown. What is known is that the Dolphins have to play near perfect football today to beat a Colts team that is trending in the right direction despite their 5-5 record.

Many look at Andrew Luck and think that Tannehill’s injury is similar to what Luck endured last season when he missed the year. Luck is playing some of his best football but even at his best, Ryan Tannehill is not Andrew Luck.

Those same fans and members of the media also tend to believe that these last six games could be the indicator as to whether or not Tannehill returns to the team in 2019 but there is almost no reason to believe that the Miami Dolphins won’t continue with Tannehill at quarterback beyond the 2018 season.

The Dolphins front office and coaching staff love Tannehill and he has done everything the team has asked, he may be asked to take a pay cut this off-season but even if he declines it’s hard to imagine him being anywhere else in 2019.

Today however is the first step in his recovery. It’s an opportunity to quiet down the naysayers and a chance to right the sinking offense of the Miami Dolphins. An offense that has been anemic all year-long and an offense who has yet to score a touchdown on their opening possession in 2018.

Can Tannehill turn it around or will the Dolphins offense continue to swim in mediocrity? Today’s game may not be the right game to be that indicator. Tannehill is likely going to be rusty and a lot will depend on how his shoulder holds up. That is what a lot of people will be watching.
