Miami Dolphins “Football Unites” brings wearable AI to blind children
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins once again continued their excellence of providing South Florida youth with something positive as the holiday season is in full swing.
Over the weekend the Miami Dolphins partnered with the Miami Israeli Consulate and Miami Lighthouse to provide a wearable artificial intelligent “OrCam” device to four legally blind children giving them a bigger chance at fullfilling their dreams.
The device provides assistance with everyday activities that include reading to help legally blind people in their everyday lives. On Monday the Dolphins through their Football Unites program brought the glasses to the kids in need.
T.J. McDonald and other staff members and members of Football Unites delivered four pairs of the wearable glasses to Emily Bejerano, Diandre Incera, Marnel Jean, and Sebastian Torres. The glasses were purchased by the Israeli Consulate.
The glasses help the children read and recognize faces.
"“Talking to them, they all had similar interests as me growing up. I think that it will be able to eliminate some of the challenges they might have and be able to keep pushing forward and achieve their goals. It feels awesome, it’s exciting to be able to see the looks on their faces it definitely makes me feel good and I am excited for their futures.” said T.J. McDonald."
The “OrCam” goggles are a cutting edge tech advancement that can help those who are legally blind live fuller lives while giving them an even playing field.
Through their “Football Unites” program the Miami Dolphins are moving forward in the community to bring the power of teamwork in an effort to “inspire” a healthier and more educated South Florida. Football Unites looks beyond the barriers of race, gender, and social injustices as well as sexual orientations. As their website says, “it’s not about one group. Social injustice does not have one face”.
The Miami Dolphins have been at the forefront of serving their community and reaching beyond the borders of counties. With partnerships such as Miami Lighthouse and the Israeli Consulate as well as other partners during more events, the Dolphins are taking their goals and missions and turning them into realities that continue to make South Florida better for everyone.
